All Aboard

Today we rode a historic train from Waterloo to St. Jacob's Village. We went with several other families that have adopted from China. There is a group here that has monthly events/outings. It was nice to meet some other people and get a chance to chat with other parents. It is only about 6 miles between the two towns but the ride took about 40 minutes. We saw parts of Waterloo, including Daddy Relcuk's office, from a different angle and also some of the farmland around Waterloo. W and R were very well behaved and liked looking out the window of the train. We were surprised at how well the scenery held their attention.

St. Jacobs has many small shops -- crafts, art, garden stores -- but it was misting rain pretty steadily so we didn't look around too much. We had a long breakfast/lunch and then explored just a little before getting the train back home. We'd like to go back one day when the weather is nicer or it would be a great place to do some Christmas shopping.

On the ride back from St. Jacob's, W was stung by a hornet/wasp that had somehow made it on to the train. She was stung on the hand when she tried to grab the insect. She was upset for a little while but calmed down when we gave her a forbidden salty pretzel. She seems OK now and no swelling or too much pain - we gave her some Tylenol so hopefully she won't feel it too much. Then, to add to the drama, when we arrived back in Waterloo, we found that "someone" had left the lights on in the car so the battery was dead and we had to call for a jump (all of this in the now pouring rain). The auto service guy came pretty quickly and the car seems fine.

Overall a nice day trip and would be much more fun in nice weather. It was good for us to get out and manage food/nap timing while out and about for such a long time.
