We had the twins' DNA tested by a lab in California to determine if they are dizygotic ("fraternal") or monozygotic ("identical") twins.
We swabbed their cheeks on several different occasions to collect the cells which were used to extract the DNA. The swabs went in a tube of solution and were shipped to the lab. The testing is done by looking at certain DNA markers that tend to vary significantly from person to person. Based on this comparison, the lab concluded that there is a greater than 99% probability that W and R are monozygotic or identical.
