The preparations for this trip were not unlike some of our hiking expeditions -- an exhaustive Excel spreadsheet packing list, a pre-dawn awakening, carb loading the night before to help maintain our energy levels . . .
The drive went perfectly. We made it in about 6 hours, with one stop. Here's why:
The twins were not aware that our new minivan contained a T.V. When we flipped down the screen and turned on an "Elmo's World" DVD, they paused, eyes wide and jaws hanging down in utter disbelief. W stopped in mid-bite, holding a cracker aloft,. R found her voice first, shouting "MEL-MO!", like she was screaming for the Beatles.
The twins watched TV, napped and rocked out to Queen, with no fussing, whining or other unpleasantness. Baby V slept the entire way, other than when she was forcibly awakened and fed. In fact, it was so easy that I'm assuming it was all a dream and I'm going to wake up to find that it is 5 a.m. and we haven't actually left yet . . .
Once we arrived at Grandma K's house, she had a new Twin Sized pool.
